Annual Work Report of AICMEU

For the year 2003 - 04

 

Dear members we feel our pleasure to put before you the twentieth annual work report of AICMEU. This has been prepared with an object to access our performance for the year ending 31st March 2004.

 

TRUST

 

1.      Only one affiliate member namely Al Jadid Enterprises has been enrolled against target of 10 patrons, 25 Affiliate and 100 subscribing members. Efforts been also made to reactivate / re-organize the working group at Mumbra. As a result during the month of Ramdhan, 32 widows and destitute been aided through Zakat collected by local members. But nothing specific been done after that.

 

2.      One day conference on Networking of NGO’s of India been organized on 31st July 2003 at Hotel Sahil, Bellasis Road, Mumbai – 400 008. The conference was attended by over 65 representatives more than 50 active NGO’s hailing from 11 different states of India, although majority of them were from Maharashtra.  The main objective of this conference was to explore the possibility of networking among the NGO’s working for similar objects. Indeed, the meet was an outcome of some leading activists for last one and a half decade. The said conference was a grand success as far the quantitative and qualitative participation of delegates was concerned.

 

3.      Papers entitled Muslims in India been printed and circulated among the socially aware group before they meet for conference on Networking of NGO’s of India. We also printed a booklet on Community Initiative and Education of Muslims in Maharashtra, prepared by Dr. Rahmatullah. This is a very useful paper as far orientation and motivation of educational activists is concerned.

 

4.      A specific committee of three persons (namely – Mr. Munir Ahmad Khan of Nashik, Mr. Abdul Gaffar Shaikh of Aurangabad and Mr. Naim Zahid of Beid) been formed to collect information about Govt. education and welfare schemes. But yet the committee has to submit any information / report.

 

AICMEU’S EMPLOYMENT INFORMATION AND VOCATIONAL GUIDANCE CENTRE

 

1.      The database programme has been made ready for operation but for lack of resources we could not launch it. Thus the target of serving the jobseekers and employers at larger scale could not been implemented.

 

2.      As compared to previous year the center has registered 22.8% less jobseekers, as during 2002-03 we had registered 1262 jobseekers compared to only 974 registered jobseekers during 2003-04.

 

3.      There had been consistency in number of interviews arranged by the center. Last year total 3040 interviews arranged compared to 3041 in the year 2002-03.

 

4.      The number of vacancies received from local employers has increased by 39.16% as in the year 2003-04 we received total 1297 vacancies compared to 932 vacancies in 2002-03.

 

5.      Similarly the number of jobseekers got employment has also increased by 14.54% as in the year 2002-03 we had helped 447 jobseekers to get employment while during the year 2003-04, total 512 jobseekers been helped to secure job placement.

 

6.      To improve the skill and caliber of the jobseekers the scheduled plans were taken up. Total 40 training and vocational guidance programmes were organized at AICMEU’s J. R. career Centre, where total 641 jobseekers were trained. The focal points in these programmes were to develop the skill and caliber of jobseekers with regard to facing interviews.

AICMEU’S J. R. CAREER CENTRE

 

1.      The computer center has been upgraded to match the requirements of advanced software added to existing one-year diploma course of NCPUL, New Delhi.

 

2.      Sept. 2000, the computer division has completed three years of education and training with NCPUL recognized one-year diploma in Computer Application and Multilingual DTP. During the session October 2002 to September 2003, the center admitted 60 new students for this course. During the year 15 students dropped their studies for lack of consistency and financial crunch. Total 45 students appeared in their final examination. Out of these 45 students appeared in final examination, 1 got distinction while other 40 have secured 1st class marks.

 

3.      For the session October 2003 to September 2004, 15 pass out students have secured gainful employment after completion of their course.

4.      The center also arranged short-term crash courses where 35 students been trained (without any cost) about computer basics.   

 

5.      The center has also applied for 6 monthly diploma courses in Office Automation and Computerized Accountancy, recognized by Maharashtra State Board for Technical Education, Mumbai.

 

AICMEU’S INDUSTRAIL TRAINING CENTRE, TROMBAY

 

1.      AICMEU’s Industrial Training Centre, Trombay, Mumbai – 400 088 taught total 45 students in the following technical courses recognized by NCVT, Govt. of India.

    Beside this, AICMEU’s Technical Institute taught 17 students in 6 monthly short-term courses in Air Conditioning and Refrigeration, recognized by Govt. of Maharashtra.

 

AICMEU’S SCHOLARSHIP DIVISION

 

1.      During the year 2002-03, AICMEU’s Scholarship division has provided educational scholarships to total 232 students. ASD granted monthly scholarships to 32 students pursuing in medical and engineering courses, while 200 primary school students of Rs. 600/- p.a. have been distributed with the help of Sahayta Trust, Hyderabad. 

 

2.      ASD also helped MET, Delhi to search the science talents from Maharashtra state. To process it we arranged competitive examination and MET selected 4 students for scholarships of Rs. 1,000/-.

 

3.      During the year 2002-03, ASD helped 11 students to complete their graduation with the help of their adopters. While Shaikh Hannan Hussain (ASD/99/E/01) who was doing BE production despite of our requisitions has not submitted any report for last 20 months and we fear he might have dropped his studies.

 

4.      However under ASD adoption scheme, 21 students continued to get their monthly scholarships with the philanthropic support of ten adopters.

 

AICMEU’S BAIT AL ZAKAT

 

1.      Last year AICMEU’s Bait Al Zakat has again printed and published 4000 booklets on the concept of Centralized Zakat System along with some featured articles on the month of holy Ramdhan Ul Mubarak. The copies of theses booklets been distributed among potential zakat payers to make them aware about the concept of Centralized Zakat System.

 

2.      The Bait Al Zakat, Mumbai issued application forms and selected 372 aid seekers (out of 600 persons) as most deserving and categorically fit under criteria of assistance. After submission of 303 application forms, our staff made close investigation on each application and found 212 applicants as most deserving and genuine, while rejected 91 other applications. Thereafter the committee members resolved and granted zakat aid to 212 persons worth amounting Rs. 3,78,976/-. Beside this the members also provided special Idd aid to 702 poor brothers with Fitra amounting to Rs. 46,860/ - and Qurbani meat. The head wise distribution of Zakat during April 2003 to March 2004 is as below.

BABA E QAUM MEDICAL SERVICES TRUST

 

1.      During the year 2003 – 04, the doctors of AICMEU’s Baba E Qaum Charitable dispensary at Govandi has examined and medicated 10,057 patients at charitable rates.

 

2.      The Ambulance services operated in collaboration with Millennium City Scan Centre, Kurla (West), Mumbai – 400 070

 

AICMEU’S IQRA MODEL SCHOOL

 

1.      The number of students has increased from 235 to 265. The limited number of classrooms (only four) has been hindrance in increasing the students further.

 

2.      The tailoring classes have provided tailoring skill to 60 girl students.
